2016 Concerto Competition for High School and Collegiate Musicians

The First Coast Wind Symphony and Jacksonville University are pleased to announce the FCWS 2016 Concerto Competition for High School and Collegiate Musicians. This annual young artist event is designed to promote music education in Florida by providing talented students an opportunity to perform a solo work with a wind symphony.

The Concerto Competition consists of both a high school and a collegiate division. The winner from each division will be chosen through a competitive audition process. Both the high school and collegiate winners will perform with the First Coast Wind Symphony in concert on April 24, 2016 at Jacksonville University. Each winner will receive a $1,000.00 cash award from the First Coast Wind Symphony.


Eligibility
The concerto competition is open to Florida high school (grades 9-12) and undergraduate collegiate musicians who play woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. The student must reside in the state of Florida.

Important Dates
March 1 - Application packet due
March 19 - Competition Finals held at Jacksonville University
April 24- Winners will perform with the First Coast Wind Symphony and receive a $1,000.00 cash award

2015 Concerto Competition

The winner of the 2015 Concerto Competition was bassoonist Christopher Gonzalez. Christopher performed the Mozart Bassoon Concerto and received a cash prize of $1,000.00 from the FCWE. He is a native of Orlando who attends Ridge Community High School in Davenport. He currently studies with Ashley Heintzen at Stetson University in DeLand. In addition to performing with various high school ensembles, he has performed with the Florida Young Artists Orchestra and the Rollins College Wind Ensemble.

The First Coast Wind Symphony is committed to supporting music education in Florida schools.
